For the first time, since the Turkish invasion of 1974, UN official breaks the protocol and visited the illegal Embassy of Turkey in the Occupied Territories.
In a puzzling move, according to the Turkishcypriot media, Alexander Downer met with Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the so called “Embassy of Turkey” in the occupied territories, to discuss the matter of the common announcement.
The UN official essentially gives status the unrecognized Turkishcypriot “state”, violating resolutions of the UN Security Council .
Alexander Downer was to depart Cyprus yesterday after talks with the two leaders .
After initiative of Downer the meeting with Davutoglu to “Embassy” Turkey.
Regarding the meeting with the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary General Alexander Downer, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Davutoglu said that the meeting took place after Mr Downer’s initiative.
The Turkish Minister called frank and constructive the meeting with Mr Downer in which , he said, discussed the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and the contacts he had in Athens and the TRNC.
