More unemployment on the 3rd trimester of 2013

 

According to data made public by the Statistical Service, in Cyprus during the third quarter of 2013, 16.2 % of the workforce was recorded to be unemployed, having an increase of 0.7 % compared to the same quarter of 2012. 

At the same time, unemployment among young people between 15-24 years was recorded in 38.5 %, decreased by 1.8 % compared with the previous quarter but increased by 12.1 % compared to the same quarter last year.

More specifically, for the third quarter of 2013, the number of employed persons amounted to 374,800 persons (196,200 men and 178,600 women) and the number of unemployed persons to 72,700 persons (38,700 men and 34,000 women).

The employment rate of people aged 20-64 years was 66.9 % (men 72.7 % and women 61.7%), recording a decrease from the previous quarter of 2013, 67.3% (men 72.9 %, women 62 1 %) and the respective quarter of 2012, 70.0 % (men 76.3 % and women 64.2 %).

The unemployment rate amounted to 16.2 % of the workforce (men 16.5 % and women 16.0%), recording an increase from the previous quarter of 2013, 15.5 % (men 16.2 % , women 14.6 % ) and the respective quarter of 2012, 12.1 % (men 12.3 % and women 11.8 %).

Unemployment among young people aged 15-24 was recorded in 38.5 % of the workforce, recording a decrease of 40.3% from the previous quarter of 2013 but an increase of 26.4% from the respective quarter of 2012.

This data is based on the results of the Labor Force Survey, that was conducted in accordance with the European Regulation.
