Supermarkets: Trying to restrain the prices due to VAT rise

Andreas Xatziadamou, the Executive Secretary of Supermarkets Association in Cyprus, said that supermarkets will absorb the VAT increase, so that the cost of living will not rise up and the VAT increase will not roll over on consumer’s backs.

He also said that supermarkets, within the framework of their social policy “will take measures to avoid the costs passed on to the consumer, letting the consumers breath by this way.”

Mr. Xatziadamou expressed his satisfaction about the movement that was observed these days in supermarkets and said that the consumer’s psychology has changed.

Regarding the health and safety of the food, Mr. Xatziadamou mentioned that these two issues work flawlessly during the last years in Cyprus, noting that these issues have to do with checks that are carried out thoroughly by the competent authorities, in cooperation with entrepreneurs in their own branch, a tandem, as he described.

He added that members of the Supermarkets Association in Cyprus are possessed by professionalism so that the Cypriot consumer can be sure that whatever ends up on his plate is perfectly safe, especially through the trust governing the supermarkets and the necessary systems regarding safety and food hygiene that have adopted all these years.

Mr. Xatziadamou also mentioned the offers that are made by all supermarkets and the consumer’s response.
