The character assassination of a Cypriot Businessman

In 2015, a report on a Cypriot newspaper, “Politis”, which is known for its inaccurate and libelous news especially regarding the “enemies” of its owner, Mr. Yiannis Papadopoulos, about a Burger King case was published with a complete disregard to truth and facts, in order to complete the character assassination of Mr. Lambros Christofi.

The Burger King case was started by Delta Capital Partners and Mr. Chris Delise who tried to blackmail Mr. Lambros Christofi with unfounded allegations and complete disregard for the laws in order to get extortion money from Mr. Christofi. DeLise threatened Lambros Christofi with publishing a report in Cypriot Media that was full of lies in order to throw mud at Mr. Christofi’s name and reputation.

“Politis” newspaper published the article without fact-checking, simply repeating the false and unfounded claims of Mr. Delise in order to continue its smear campaign against Mr. Lambros Christofi.

However, what came next Mr. Delise couldn’t predict or counter. Mr. Lambros Christofi fought him in UK courts and managed to win the case a few months later, forcing Delise to pay up to 150k pounds for all legal expenses accrued and there is another case in Cypriot courts, where Mr. Christofi rightly asked for compensation for the character assassination he suffered from Mr. Delise to the tune of €50 million. Mr. Delise and Delta Capital Partners still to this day have not yet paid the initial amount of 150k.

Of course, “Politis” newspaper did not publish anything on the legal win by Mr. Christofi as this didn’t “fit” in his character assassination attempts at Mr. Christofi. It is worth mentioning that Mr. Christofi has a number of cases in court about the owner of the “Politis” newspaper, Mr. Yiannis Papadopoulos and a number of journalists for libel and defamation.
