The SBA Police in Dhekelia focuses on the professional environment of the 37-year old entrepreneur from Frenaros, who was shot at dawn in the abdomen by strangers. However, while the motives of the criminals are still unknown so far, the police are waiting for the victim to recover from surgery and testify, in order to give them all the necessary information that will lead to the criminals.
The spokesman of SBA Police in Dhekelia, Andreas Pitsillides stated: “today around 04:20 in the morning the SBA Police received a phone call about shooting and injuring of a person at a premises – coffee shop located in Xylofagou within the territory of the Base.”
He added that “according to a testimony the victim was shot from distance while leaving the premises with a friend and a girlfriend of his. Men of SBA Police went to the scene. The victim had serious injuries and an ambulance took him to Paralimni General Hospital. “
The 37-year old man got out of surgery at 10:30 and according to Mr. Pitsillides “the doctors describe his situation stable but critical. The victim was shot twice in the abdomen and a shot at his right hand”.
According to the Police, the premises at Xylofagou which is located in the territory of SBA in Dhekelia, is used for cube purposes during holidays.
Men of the SBA Police noted that “specialists began the investigations at the scene immediately and have already accumulated a number of gun cartridge. A special team has been set up and is investigating serious crimes. It also analyzes all the information, aiming to resolve this serious crime” he said.
Mr. Pitsillides also said “we are investigating the murder attempt; the criminals’ motives remain unknown so far, while we are exploring all the possibilities. However we focus on the victim’s professional environment.”
When he was asked whether there were security cameras in other area premises, the spokesman of SBA Police replied that this is among the matters that are under consideration.
